Module 6 Reflection

1. How has this module helped you think about self-directed learners and the role of differentiated learning?

As an ESE teacher, I am always aware of individual differences. I always must make accommodations for learning characteristics. With the unit plan, those accommodations are already included in the beginning.

  1. This module has helped me think about self-directed learners and the role of differentiated learning in the following ways: As an ESE teacher, I am always trying to find the way each of my students learn best. Each student is different and finding the way they learn can be challenging. I always incorporate the following learning modalities: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. This can help to provide rich learning experiences for all my students.

  2. I can help my students become self-directed learners by teaching them basic skills such as: organization and self-direction. Teaching students to be active in their role of the learning process is key! Students need to become engaged and have some desire for knowledge and the teacher must tap into this someway.

Teachers can differentiate instruction in many ways! Too mant to list here and now. The content can be adjusted based on student ailities and needs, the ways the info is passed on are numerous, needed materials and resources should be made available within the classroom so students feel at ease to use and can mange materials without having to ask, and finally the classroom environment should be pleasing to both the instructor and student. The classroom needs to be a safe place to learn, a place where students feel they can take risks.
