Module 5 Reflection
This module has helped me think about student-centered assessment in the following ways…it’s really important! That one was a no-brainer, but as I’ve learned it gives students more accountability and there is more than one way to do it. That’s the really “neat” thing, especially since I’ve found resources that gave me ideas and things to “borrow” or “tweak.” Also, I’ve seen that when students are given increased ownership with specific guidelines or “path” to follow that the quality of work improves but that they’re more enthusiastic about it. Now, enthusiasm isn’t always going to be there…I get it, but it helps and adds to it. Now, if I only had the equipment…hmmmm.

This module has helped me think about student centered assessment in the following ways: After being asked to reflect on assessments I have used in my classroom, I see some areas that could use improvement. I plan to be more consistent in having my students reflect on their learning. Since I am a project child teacher, I do this periodically but plan to make it an activity for each unit we do. I also wish I had more time for conferencing with indvidual students. Due to 80 minute blocks in which I need to cover content in lessons, student station/group time, my taking small group for further instruction THEN teaching science... my days are so structured and full! I often feel so stuck to pacing guides and moving forth although I truly beleive in teaching for true learning. It is a constant inner struggle for me.

The students are using rubrics, checklists, and giving feedback. I liked taking the "Reflecting on Assessment in my Classroom." It really showed me how I can change the way I do assessments in my classroom next year.
